The Martin Audio SX118 is a compact passive 18” subwoofer designed for professional sound systems that require high-impact low frequency reinforcement from a manageable cabinet format. It is suitable for live sound, performance venues, bars, clubs, theatres, houses of worship, event production and fixed installations where strong bass output and reliable system performance are required.
Built around a long-excursion 18” driver with a 4” voice coil, the SX118 delivers powerful low frequency output with excellent headroom. The driver uses a water-resistant cone and triple roll surround, while the compact reflex enclosure is designed to provide high output with controlled bass performance. This makes the SX118 a strong option for music-led venues and portable systems where depth, punch and clarity are all important.
With 1000W AES power handling and 4000W peak capability, the SX118 provides a substantial level of performance from a single-driver subwoofer. Its 8Ω passive design requires suitable amplification and dedicated DSP processing, with the crossover typically set between 80Hz and 120Hz depending on the system design. Correct amplifier matching, crossover setup and limiter configuration are important to achieve reliable performance and smooth integration with the main loudspeakers.
The SX118 can be used as a standalone subwoofer, stacked with additional units using its locating skids and mating channels, or suspended using the integrated M10 mounting points and correctly rated hardware. It also includes an M20 top-mounted pole mount plate, allowing compatible full-range loudspeakers to be mounted above the subwoofer in compact PA or venue systems.
For more controlled low frequency deployment, the SX118 can be configured for cardioid operation when used in forward and rear-facing pairs with appropriate processing. This helps reduce rearward bass energy and can be useful in venues where low frequency control behind the system is important.
The cabinet is constructed from multi-laminate birch/poplar plywood and finished in a durable black Polyurea coating for professional touring and installation use. Bar handles support practical handling, while the black perforated Zintec grille protects the driver during transport, setup and operation.
