The Allen & Heath SQ6+ is a professional 48 channel digital mixing console designed for live sound, installed AV, theatre, education, houses of worship, broadcast, streaming and venue audio systems. Sitting between the compact SQ5+ and larger SQ7+ in the SQ+ range, the SQ6+ provides a strong balance of hands-on control, local I/O and compact footprint, making it a practical choice for engineers and venues that need more faders and inputs without moving to a full-size console.
At the centre of the SQ6+ is Allen & Heath’s 96kHz XCVI Core, delivering high-resolution audio processing for demanding live and installed sound applications. The console provides 48 inputs to mix, 12 stereo aux/group mixes plus LR, and 6 mono/linkable matrix outputs, giving users the routing flexibility required for front-of-house mixing, monitor sends, recording feeds, broadcast outputs, overflow rooms and distributed venue audio. It also includes full channel and mix processing, including HPF, PEQ/GEQ, compression and gate processing, giving engineers the tools required for professional system control.
The SQ6+ features 25x 100mm motorised faders, giving users more direct channel control than the smaller SQ5+ while still maintaining a manageable console size. This makes it well suited to bands, theatre productions, school halls, churches, live venues and event spaces where quick access to multiple inputs and mixes is important. Six channel strip layers allow the surface to be configured around the user’s workflow, while custom naming, colour coding and flexible strip assignment help make show operation faster and more intuitive.
The 9" touchscreen provides clear access to console functions, routing, processing, metering and setup. The SQ+ interface uses a dark GUI, illuminated encoders and clear visual feedback, supporting operation in live venues, theatres, churches and production environments where visibility can vary. For engineers managing complex shows, the combination of touchscreen control and physical faders provides a practical workflow that balances speed, precision and flexibility.
Local connectivity is strong, with 24x XLR mic/line inputs, 12x XLR outputs, 2x TRS outputs, 3x stereo line inputs and a dedicated XLR talkback input. This makes the SQ6+ suitable for many mid-sized systems without immediately requiring an external stagebox. For schools, venues and houses of worship, the generous local I/O can be useful for systems where microphones, playback devices, stage feeds and output zones are all wired directly to the console position.
Digital expansion is handled through the 128x128 Intelligent SLink port, which supports Allen & Heath’s Everything I/O ecosystem and connection to compatible Allen & Heath consoles. This allows the SQ6+ to be expanded with remote stageboxes, expanders and digital audio infrastructure as the system grows. A dedicated I/O card slot also supports optional SLink, Dante, Waves and MADI cards, making the console suitable for more advanced audio networking, recording and integration workflows.
The SQ6+ includes 8 RackExtra FX engines with dedicated send and return channels, along with 4 RackUltra FX engines with dedicated send and return channels. This gives users a wide range of built-in effects for vocal processing, reverbs, delays, modulation, pitch tools, creative processing and live mixing enhancement. The additional RackUltra FX platform brings higher-level processing options into the SQ+ workflow, making the console suitable for demanding live music, theatre and worship applications.
For recording, playback and virtual soundcheck, the SQ6+ includes both USB-A and USB-B functionality. USB-A supports 16 channels at 96kHz or 32 channels at 48kHz for direct recording and playback, while the USB-B audio interface provides 32x32 channels at 96kHz or 48kHz. This makes the console suitable for multitrack recording, livestreaming, DAW integration and simple stereo or multichannel capture without requiring a separate external audio interface.
The SQ6+ is also well suited to speech-led environments thanks to its automatic mic mixing capability. This is useful for conferences, council chambers, education spaces, panel discussions, houses of worship and hybrid events where multiple microphones may be open at the same time.
