Choosing the Right Lighting Equipment
Choosing the right lighting equipment depends on the space, the type of performance or event, and how much control you need over the final look. A school stage, drama studio, bar, theatre, church hall or live event space will all have different requirements, so it is worth considering fixture type, mounting position, control method and the overall effect you want to achieve.
For general stage wash lighting, LED PAR cans and battens are a practical choice for adding colour and coverage across a stage or performance area. Fresnels and profile spotlights offer more controlled lighting, making them useful for drama, theatre and presentation environments. Moving heads, uplighters and effects lighting are better suited to venues and event spaces where atmosphere, movement and impact are important.
The correct lighting bars or truss systems are also an important part of the setup. Fixtures need to be mounted safely, positioned correctly and supported by suitable accessories, clamps and control equipment. For fixed installations, internally wired lighting bars can help create a cleaner, more professional finish with reduced visible cabling.
